WEIRD iPod accessories

I found these two videos looking to for iPod DJing videos and iPod related stuff of iPodDJing.co.uk. I’m not sure what to make of them at the moment but I’ll find out what they are and put up a review…naturally.

iPod web apps

Because the iPod touch and iPod phone are wi-fi enabled and can browse the internet via the iPod touch screen, this means that online applications, web apps can be created to be used in conjunction with the wi-fi enabled format, all that is needed is for the screen size to take into consideration the iPod touch and iPod phone, screen size. This is again good news for iPod DJing fans, as now you can have web based programs that you can access via your iPod touch or iPod phone and whats more they are web based so they won’t take up memory space on the iPod or iPod phone. As yet a quick look on the apple site I couldn’t find any webapps particularly relevant to DJing on the iPod, however, I’m sure as popularity grows more DJing related web apps will start to appear, for the time being this is the only DJing related iPod webapp I could find, check it out here.

Building iPod touch applications

Apple have recently launched the iPod touch SDK Developers program, iPod touch and iPhone Developer Program provides a complete and integrated process for developing, debugging, and distributing free, commercial, or in-house applications native to iPhone and iPod touch. It comes complete with development resources, real-world testing on iPhone, and distribution on the App Store, so you have everything you need to go from code to customer.

For normal DJs and iPod users this is pretty insignificant, in that we wouldn’t need to ever handle this kind of stuff, however for programmers and developers this has huge implications, allowing them to create applications that run native on the iPod and iPhone… why would us iPod DJing fans care?

Well, there’s been plenty of noise made about creating an iPod application that allows you to DJ on the iPod, iPod touch, or iPhone without the need for a third party controller or without having to Jailbreak the iPhone.

There are a few applications that already allow you to DJ on an iPhone, but non are really full spec DJ applications and really don’t do the iPod any justice.

Anyways, if you’re an iPod fan, and a DJ and a Developer, then this might be of use to you.

The fifth beta version of the iPhone SDK includes Xcode IDE, iPhone simulator with Open GL ES support, Interface Builder, Instruments, frameworks and samples, compilers, and Shark analysis tool. Has now been launched and its free to trial, here.

For those of you who are really serious, there is the iFund, a $100M investment initiative that will fund market-changing ideas and products that extend the revolutionary new iPhone and iPod touch platform, provided by Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers.

iPod oddities

The iPod has a slot at the bottom, usually this is used to connect up to the USB or firewire cable which connects to your computer. As this transfers both information and power by using this for iPod accessories whilst most iPod accessories are pretty cool and serve some function, the Nike + iPod concept for example, where with a sensor in you nike shoes allows you to sync you running information on to your iPod. Naturally virtually all iPod mixers leverage of the dock slot on the iPod, to extract information that is then precessed and allows you to DJ with the iPod. OK so this site is about iPod DJing, but I could resist showing you some of the mad ideas people have come up with for the iPod.

iPod Toilet Paper Dispenser

for those of you music lovers (if you’re a DJ you probably are), now you can have an iPod dock on your toilet roll holder, WHY, are you that much of an iPod addict you even need your iPod in the bathroom when your takin a dump?

iPod Panties

I don’t know about you, but when you’re in the mood, i seriously doubt that an iPod factors in to the concept of coitus, clearly The Sexy Society an online lingerie retailer clearly thing theres a need to have lingerie that is able to hold an iPod…cause there’s clearly an iPod fetish market that needs catering for.

iPod Jeans

Whilst this is still a pretty crappy idea, there is some merit to this iPod accessory idea, at least its the most practical of the lot. that being said, this levi monstrositysuffers from over design, and takes iPod addiction to the next level, with pockets and lanyards specially to hold the iPod and its controller, really its an overpriced iPod concept, I mean whats wrong with just having the iPod in your pocket?

iPod Chairs

Here’s another psudo-brilliant iPod idea, this one might actually be good for DJs at first glance, but in reality its an overpriced short term concept, add speakers and an iPod dock to a chair…right, and I’m going to rely on that rather than my full surround sound music system which I could have afforded if I hadn’t been a numpty and bought the iPod chair.

these are a mere sample of the iPod accessories that really are crap, if you want a glimpse of a few more, check out this article. Here you’ll find information on iPod Bras, iDisguise, iBoxers, iLoad iPod Loader, iPod Breathalyzer, and iPod Vibrator for Two

The iPod

The iPod was invented launched in 2001 October by Apple. Whilst there were alternative MP3s and music was available online, what the iPod achieved was a success in branding and marketing experience.  Essentially the iPod was the turning point in music, allowing whole libraries of music to be contained in a single pocket sized device.  The iPod is essentially a mini computer, not to dissimilar to early computers, at the same time the iPod was launched Apple launched iTunes, a software that manages and plays back MP3 music.

As the technology evolved the iPod has gotten smaller and more flexible, paving way for opportunities to DJ and use the iPod as a DJ tool and DJ device that is far more flexible and easy to learn than conventional DJ equipment. As DJing become more and accessible, more and more people are keen to learn how to DJ with out having to spend a fortune on DJ equipment or spend ages having to learn how to use DJ equipment, making the iPod and DJ equipment for the iPod an ideal entry point and starting point for those looking to learn how to DJ.
